The Power of Intention

{by Felicia}

It’s amazing what happens when we are being held to a certain level of expectation — whether it be from our own personal accountability or the expectations that someone else has for us. A few years ago, I spent a week in the Niagra Falls of Canada as a part of a leadership development retreat. It was a very intense yet transformational experience that with each day brought on a heightened level of self-awareness and new challenges to take us completely out of our comfort zones.

One exercise that I found to be particularly powerful was our requirement to set our intention for how we were going to be BEFORE we arrived for the retreat. Intention is the choice to be fully aware, present and in the moment. It’s about being conscious of what drives and motivates us to operate at our most optimal level of performance – no matter what. When we set our intention or level of expectation, it serves as the foundation for all of our choices in spite of what may be going on around us.

On the other hand, when we are unclear about our intentions, we risk the chance of being led by someone else’s agenda, being reactive instead of proactive and ultimately getting in the way of our own success. Just doing this one exercise allowed me to stay in alignment with my intention which was to be fully engaged and give 100% of my focus to the experience — no distractions. As a result, I was able to fully immerse myself in order to get the most out of it and deliver on the other part of my intention which is to ALWAYS teach someone else what I learn. (-;

Given how easy it might be to ‘participate’ in whatever negative thoughts or feelings you may be grappling with, I’d like to challenge you to make a conscious choice to do just the opposite. Start this week by setting your intentions for how you will BE, DO & ACT – in spite of what’s in front of you. Know that if you choose to have a laissez-faire attitude about where you’re headed, that’s exactly how it will show up – laissez-faire. Change your attitude, intention and actions and watch what happens…

    I have never left a comment on any website but I will take the time to write a brief one now. This is my first time looking at your email you send out. This is an amazing way to live “Intention”. I really enjoyed your information (above) regarding “The Power of Intention”. I read a book “If How’s Were Enough, We Would All Be Skinny Rich and Happy”. As you stated living with “intention” and acting in harmony with it, it makes me feel amazing and that makes us powerful. I’m a new business owner, from this day forward I will live and run my business with this mindset “Intention”. My business name is Q-tsie. Thanks for your confirmation and the reminder.
